Picture yourself enjoying a glass of wine on a sunny terrace on the southernmost coast of Europe and just a few miles from North Africa. The warm sunshine is complemented by the stunning views before you; a lush green golf course, down the valley to the Mediterranean or across to the mountains topped by the magnificent Concha peak close by.

 

You have spent the morning wandering around a local market or browsing the highly fashionable shops of Marbella or Puerto Banus, followed by an al fresco lunch in the famous Orange Square.

 

Later you will stroll down to the pool and exotic gardens, have a bath and more terrace drinks, before going out to a restaurant in the nearby Spanish town of San Pedro de Alcantara.

 

Tomorrow will be a good day to explore one of the old mountain villages like Istan or Casares, or even to  Ronda, with its famous bullring and museum and bridge across the great gorge.

 

On another day, perhaps a drive to Gilbraltar for some cheap shopping, to Malaga for the Picasso Museum or to exciting  Cordoba or Seville.
